Same Day Intervention - Outwood Primary Academy Greystone

Same Day Intervention is an approach to maths teaching that aims to ensure that no child is left behind and is built on the ethos and culture that everyone can achieve.

The lesson is structured to allow teachers to check for understanding throughout the session, in order to provide appropriate, immediate intervention to address any misconceptions.

Daily maths lessons use the following structure:

Teaching input and high quality modelling to the whole class.
Each concept is modelled step-by-step to ensure all learners can keep up. After modelling and using an 'I do, you do' approach, children then answer a number of questions independently.
Effective Assessment for Learning during this time gives teachers the information they need to adapt the lesson as they go.
The teacher uses this information to group children based on need: those who require extra support and those learners who need to develop their depth of understanding.

The aim is to use the additional support to ensure that all children reach a certain level of understanding by the end of the day, preventing an achievement gap from forming.

Same Day Intervention is used in conjunction with the Power Maths programme.
